A Second Chance at Matric: Silulo Foundation and ReMatric SA Launch Pilot in Dunoon

The Silulo Foundation is proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ReMatric SA , launching a pilot programme in Dunoon focused on expanding access to structured Matric completion and subject improvement opportunities.

For many young people and adults, not completing Matric, or not achieving the marks they hoped for can feel like a closed door. This partnership is about reopening that door.

Bringing Structured Opportunity Closer to Home

Through this pilot, learners in Dunoon who want to complete or improve their Matric subjects will be able to access ReMatric SA’s structured online teaching programme while making use of the Silulo Foundation’s Dunoon centre as a supported learning space.

This means:

· Access to computers and internet connectivity

· A safe, supervised environment for studying

· On-site centre support during scheduled programme hours

· A space that promotes consistency, focus, and accountability

For many students, the challenge is not motivation — it is access. Reliable connectivity, quiet study space, and structured support can make the difference between giving up and finishing strong.

This partnership brings those resources directly into the community.

“At Silulo Foundation, we believe access changes outcomes. This partnership allows us to open our Dunoon centre to learners who are determined to complete or improve their Matric. We provide the space, connectivity, and support – while ReMatric SA brings the structured academic programme. Together, we are restoring confidence and creating real second chances in the community,”

A Partnership Built on Complementary Strengths

The collaboration combines two distinct but powerful capabilities:

Silulo Foundation provides the physical learning environment, centre support, and community-based access. ReMatric SA delivers the structured academic programme, curriculum, and compliance processes aligned to national requirements.

Together, this creates a model where students can receive serious, curriculum-based teaching while studying in a connected, supported space within their own community.

Subjects Available

Learners participating in the Dunoon pilot will have access to:

· English (Home Language and First Additional Language)

· Afrikaans (First Additional Language)

· Mathematics Literacy

· Business Studies

· Geography

Proposed additions include Mathematics and Life Sciences as the programme expands.

More Than a Rewrite — A Structured Pathway

ReMatric SA is not a revision or last-minute exam programme. It is a full teaching pathway designed to help students properly cover the curriculum, prepare over time, and approach examinations with confidence.

By hosting this programme in Dunoon, Silulo Foundation is helping to ensure that students who may not have access to devices, data, or safe study environments are not excluded from that opportunity.

“ReMatric SA exists to provide a credible, structured pathway for students who want to complete or improve their Matric. Partnering with Silulo Foundation allows us to extend our academic programme into communities where access to facilities can otherwise be a barrier. This collaboration ensures that motivated learners in Dunoon have both quality teaching and a supportive learning environment,” ReMatric SA Representative

Looking Ahead

The Dunoon pilot represents more than a programme launch — it represents a model for how community-based infrastructure and structured academic delivery can work together.

If successful, this approach could be extended to additional regions, bringing structured second-chance education closer to the communities that need it most.

Because education should not be a once-off opportunity. And finishing strong should always remain possible.
