At the Silulo Foundation, we celebrate entrepreneurs not only for where they are today, but also for the courage, commitment and purpose that move them forward.
This month, we are proud to celebrate two women entrepreneurs whose work is creating meaningful change in Khayelitsha and beyond.
Amanda Nkwitshi is taking healthcare forward
Amanda Nkwitshi, a Cohort 7 entrepreneur, is the founder and owner of We Care Wellness Clinic in Litha Park, Khayelitsha.
A qualified Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner, Amanda established the clinic to provide accessible, compassionate and comprehensive primary healthcare to her community.
We Care Wellness Clinic offers services including health screenings, chronic condition monitoring, family planning, wound care, HIV testing, Pap smears, blood tests, postnatal care, vaccinations and general check-ups. The clinic also provides occupational health services, employee wellness programmes and medical fitness assessments.
Amanda’s commitment to serving her community has earned recognition on two important platforms. She has progressed to the Western Cape finals of the IWISA No.1 Community Champions Competition 2026, placing her among the Top 15 entrepreneurs in the province. She has also been shortlisted for the 3rd Annual Western Cape Hollywood Foundation Bambelela Business Awards.
“Making it this far in the IWISA competition and also being shortlisted for the 3rd Annual Western Cape Hollywood Foundation Bambelela Business Awards reminds me that, as women in business, when we lead with purpose and serve our communities, our work will be seen.”

We are proud to see Amanda’s work receiving wider recognition and wish her every success as she continues to grow her business and its impact.
Asanda Tshendu is building brighter futures
Asanda Nosimo Tshendu is a Cohort 11 entrepreneur and the founder of Iphupha Lam Social Welfare Organisation, based in Harare, Khayelitsha.
Founded in 2019, Iphupha Lam supports children, young people and families through after-school care, youth mentorship, literacy support and community development initiatives.
The organisation works with schools, early childhood development spaces and local communities, offering homework support, academic mentoring, reading circles, storytelling and parent-child literacy activities in isiXhosa and English.
Iphupha Lam’s work was recently recognised with the Shelley O’Carroll Early Literacy Award from the Literacy Association of South Africa. The award celebrates the organisation’s contribution to developing and supporting literacy among young children in under-resourced communities.
Reflecting on the achievement, Asanda said: “Being recognised by the Literacy Association of South Africa is a reminder that your past does not determine your future, regardless of your circumstances. You can be what you want to be!”

Asanda’s journey shows that entrepreneurship is not only about building a sustainable organisation. It is also about responding to real community needs, creating opportunities and helping young people build brighter futures.
To our entrepreneurs: do not simply watch opportunities pass by. Apply. Put your work forward. Take the chance to be seen.
Applications are now open to entrepreneurs from previously disadvantaged communities in Cape Town for the Silulo Foundation’s first-semester 2027 Entrepreneurship Programme, beginning in February 2027. Visit https://silulofoundation.org to apply. Funders and philanthropists who would like to support this work can also visit the website to find out how to get involved.
